Community Build

Materials: Computer, Minecraft Edu

The problem: What changes can you make to your community to make it a better place by 2050?

This sections goal is to:

1. Start by pulling up a google map of your area and locating, the major areas in your community (park, downtown, arena, etc)

2.  Talk to the class about how we could improve our community, create a CIP (Community Improvement Plan) together, here is an example

3. That plan is quite complex but you can talk about how you could enhance what you have, for example

a) Significant cultural resources, landmarks, and heritage features (new museum, town statues)

b) New Entertainment options (new waterslides, amusement park)

c) Opportunities for buying local (New stores, restaurants, shops)

d) Tourist activities/locations for fishing or hunting (Boating, horse riding, biking trails)

4. Once you have formed a list below are two videos that go through how to proceed with the project in Minecraft.

5. The Students must recreate the structures or environment that is already there, then they can begin to add what they want to create.

6. Keep in mind the videos below have the addition of area, perimeter and conversion added into them as this was initially designed for  a Math unit.  You can add these elements or leave them out depending on how much time you have.

Fly around the world and take a look at other students models.  You can now ask to colaborate with other teams to perhaps bring your zones closer together or work on helping each other enhance the zones you are in!
