ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

To Do in Advance

  • Teacher(s) must do this lesson in advance to work out any issues and become familiar with the program(s). Maybe tie it into another subject of the curriculum if possible.

Opening Hook

  1. What is Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning? What can it do?

    1. Then watch this How is this beneficial for humankind?

Section 1: Playtime

  1. Demonstration of the project in action.

  2. Watch this video for the steps on this lesson. Or click on this document. This document can be photocopied for students as well but we encourage paperless.

    1. First step is going to https://machinelearningforkids.co.uk/

  • Important note that due to this project being a “Try it Now”, it can not be saved unless the teacher creates an account. For teacher pro d, it’s fine to simply play and not save it, however if a teacher wants to set up an account, they should do so by making an account and going here.

Reflection & Debrief

  • Is AI safe? Have a discussion about the future. Possible cross curricular extension.

Extensions & Modifications

How might you adapt the time, space, materials, group sizes, or instructions to make this activity more approachable or more challenging?

Extensions

  • Instead of just a fan and a lamp, can you add another device to your smart classroom?

    • What do Smart Homes have already and how could we use this in Scratch?

Modifications

  • Students who are new to Scratch or AI / Machine Learning can pair up and work together on one device.

  • Students who are competent and have used Scratch or AI / Machine Learning can try to code in Python or another language and not Scratch.
